Bambini Policies And Procedures
Bambini family day care offers flexible care in small group settings. Your child will be cared for in a warm family environment and will get to mix with children of different age groups. Bambini carers will be able to provide your child more personal attention and give you detailed feedback on your child's day via your preferred method of communication. Bambini family day care can be more affordable than many child care centres, especially considering you receive an additional 33% in child care benefit when compared to other child care options. In addition, Bambini:
All carers undergo a home safety check to ensure that their home meets the safety standards prescribed in the National Standards for family day care and is registered with the Family Day Care Quality Assurance system. Ongoing safety checks are also carried out during regular home visits. Carers undertake first aid training and are supported by the co-ordination unit in providing a safe environment.
Prospective carers are required to complete a thorough registration process that involves an interview in the home, personal reference checks, compulsory working with children background checks and police checks for all adult members of the household who may come in contact with the children, home risk assessment and completion of a first aid certificate. All carers receive ongoing training each year and many have already completed formal qualifications.
Bambini has early childhood qualified staff that work specifically in the field to monitor carers and the children in their care. These fieldworker's help make the care placement with the parent and carer; visit the carer's home to ensure care is provided to required standards; observe children; and provide developmental and behavioral suggestions and support to the carers for each child in care. This ongoing and regular process ensures that all carers and children are assessed frequently and enables our qualified staff to meet and play with the children in care and to tailor support, advice and resources for each carer and each child. Bambini and federal government representative also make regular spot visits to the carers' homes.
Carers are encouraged to plan a daily program of activities for children in their care and to display their program where parents can view it. Having planned activities helps to ensure that a child's time in care is stimulating and enjoyable. It is also helpful for the carer in that it provides some structure to the day and helps to keep children interested and involved. Outings to visit the park, library or to take walks to explore nature and the local community are also valuable in a weekly program.
When you meet the carer it's important you ask questions to ensure the carer will give your child the sort of care you want. You need to outline any issues that are important to you and negotiate to ensure the carer can meet your needs. Bambini staff can guide you on the sorts of questions you should ask the carer.
If you feel that the carer you have been referred to does not suit your child's needs then you are under no obligation to commence care. Simply advise Bambini and another suitable carer will be offered to you.
Bambini offers flexible care including care on weekends and overnight if needed. Bambini provides full-time care, part-time care, casual care for children for employees on shift work, before/after school care, vacation care, 24 hour and even respite care for parents wanting a break.
If a carer falls ill during the day of care, Bambini will provide a relief carer in the home of the ill carer to complete the days care for the children. Parents will be notified by Bambini immediately of the arrangements. All relief carers will be accredited, insured and of the same standard as our regular carers and will be closely monitored throughout their day. If the illness continues, Bambini will find an alternative carer in the local area. Where a carer is going on planned leave, at least 2 weeks notice must be given to parents. If required, Bambini will find an alternative carer in the local area for the period of the carer's leave.
Family day care is charged on an hourly basis, so your fees will depend on the number of hours you require. Carers also set a minimum number of hours for care sessions. Each carer is free to set their own fee schedule, however, Bambini expects that fees for standard hours will be in the range of $5 - $10 per hour. Up to $5 per hour, per child may be paid via the federal government funded child care benefit with further fee reductions possible through the 50% child care tax rebate (see question below for more information). Application of both these fee reductions may see net fees paid by parents as little as $1.40 per hour. Bambini recommends carers set their fee schedule based on the cost of alternative forms of child care in the local area, in particular local long day care centres. Fees should also take into account the carers qualifications, experience and house location/suitability. Fees and related terms and conditions are negotiated between the carer and parent directly. By law, carers can not charge different fees to different families for the same type of care. Accordingly, once a carer and parent have agreed on a schedule of fees that schedule of fees should be applied to all other children in care by that particular carer.
Bambini is a recognised child care service that provides "approved" care. In most cases parents will be eligible for the federal government funded child care benefit (CCB) and 50% child care tax rebate. The CCB afforded to users of family day care is 33% higher than that of other child care options which can see in excess of $5 per hour paid via CCB, dependent on the parent's "family" income. The 50% child care tax rebate is then calculated on the parent's "out of pocket expense" (i.e. total fees less CCB). The decision on eligibility for CCB rests with the Family Assistance Office. Parents should consult the Family Assistance Office (www.familyassist.gov.au) for details of their specific entitlements to CCB. Further information on the 50% child care tax rebate is available from the Australian Taxation Office (www.ato.gov.au).
Email your details including a brief description of your experience to carers@bambini.com.au or telephone (03) 9813 5680. Before you commence as a carer you will need to undergo a police check and working with children check.
The only mandatory qualification needed to be a carer is a current first aid certificate. You do not need formal childcare qualifications to apply to be a carer, however, formal qualifications and experience in the childcare field are beneficial to working as a Bambini carer. We will provide all carers with training and ongoing professional development workshops that relate to caring for children. Bambini will do a home safety check to establish whether or not the home is clean, safe, uncluttered, has enough room inside and out, and will be an environment that children will feel comfortable in. If you believe that you may have issues with indoor and/or outdoor space (including access to outdoor play areas) or any other concerns, please detail these issues when making your application to be a carer. This is particularly important for applicants that live in a flat.
Bambini endeavor to alleviate as much cost for the carer as possible. You will be required to pay for a working with children check if you do not hold a current police check. If any persons in your home over 17 years old will be in the home at the time of care, they will also require police checks. Insurance is also required by all carers and this can be paid in installments through the year at approximately $40 a month. All carers must have first aid training before commencement of care, however Bambini may provide this if needed. Occasionally, there may also be costs associated with ensuring your home meets the required safety standards such as required child proof pool fencing or providing covers for exposed heaters/fires. Common safety equipment such as child proof gates may also be available for hire.
No. You can register a company if you wish but most carers operate as self-employed contractors (also called sole traders) which mean that you operate your own business in your own name. However, you will need to obtain an Australian Business Number (ABN) and provide it to Bambini so that we can pay you. You can register for an ABN online at www.abr.gov.au This service is free and will provide you with an ABN at the end of the online registration process which takes only 10 minutes or so. Further information on considerations when starting a business, such as whether to operate as a sole trader, company or other structure, can be found at www.business.gov.au
